History of Playcrafters
Playcrafters community theater originated in Lansdale, Pennsylvania. The theater’s first performance was You Can’t Take it With You in March of 1949. Playcrafters continued to produce classic shows like Our Town and Laura, building a reputation for great theater.
In 1956, the move to Skippack began. Dage Nilsson bought some land adjacent to his property, including an old barn. His son-in-law was a member of Playcrafters and suggested that the barn could be spruced up and made into a theater. The initial barn conversion required a massive effort. One year later, Playcrafters presented Harvey in the completed theater.
The playhouse has been making great theater ever since, and Playcrafters has become an integral part of the Skippack community. The facility has been remodeled numerous times, including a large renovation in the early 2000s. That project included a large addition to the building that allowed Playcrafters to expand the scope of our performances.
In 2024, Playcrafters celebrated 75 seasons of vibrant theater! We’re proud to honor our past and move forward into a bright future.
